A person. A child. Christ was a child, like our Mia.
The anticipation of Christ's birth feels more real than ever. This past year we have been learning a lot about what it means to have a child and to be parents.
This Sunday was the first Sunday of Advent. Our pastor, Earl Palmer, had some thoughtful reflections on the "person" of Christmas.
He quoted W. H. Auden's "For the Time Being," A Christmas Oratorio:
"To those who have seen The Child, however dimly, however incredulously, The Time Being is, in a sense, the most trying time of all.
For the innocent children who whispered so excitedly outside the locked door where they knew the presents to be,
Grew up when it opened. Now, recollecting that moment
We can repress the joy, but the guilt remains conscious;
Remembering the stable where for once in our lives
Everything became a YOU and nothing was an It. "
We look under the tree to find gifts. We go to the stable to see a baby.
And we get much, much more than we expected. We get Jesus, the Saviour of the world!
As we anticipate Christmas, may the person of Jesus
be as real to you as the innocent baby He was.
And as you hang lights up around your house and on your tree, remember the One who came to shine light into this dark world.
This past weekend we put the finishing touches on our tree and hung lights up all around our new house. It is so much fun. For some reason this year Trevor and I are taking a lot more pride in our home! I think a lot of it has to do with wanting Mia to see everything in its beauty, to the fullest. It is amazing how much you love your children and want the best for them!

This weekend we had our first snow! I think Mia was a little confused, but she was definitely interested in the flakes. They were monstrous!
